Lyza Education recently concluded its first-ever Lyza EdTech Quest, an internal coding competition designed to ignite young minds aged 7 to 12. Inspired by our founder Lizhang’s early experiences with maths contests in London, EdTech Quest offers a fun yet meaningful way to assess coding ability without the complexity of university-level algorithms.
Traditional math competitions provide clear ways to evaluate skill. Coding, however, is a multi-faceted discipline of diverse languages and complex concepts make fair assessments challenging, especially for young learners. EdTech Quest bridges this gap:
Balanced evaluation: We test fundamentals like logic, syntax, and problem-solving instead of advanced concepts.
Project-based format: In addition to timed quizzes, students complete creative projects, making the experience engaging and developmentally appropriate.

On June 21, we hosted the EdTech Quest preliminaries, inviting young coders to showcase their understanding of our L200 Young Coders curriculum, featuring students that have went through both our beginner-level CodeLab and Scratch courses.
Over a 45‑minute challenge, students tackled paper-based questions designed to assess their grasp of coding fundamentals, from logical thinking and sequence structuring to basic syntax, all while keeping the experience fun and developmentally appropriate.

While the students focused on coding, their parents had the opportunity to mingle with Evan, our curriculum lead. These informal discussions gave parents insight into Lyza’s core philosophies.
It was a great opportunity for students hailing from our Orchard, Bukit Timah and Tampines centres coming over to our flagship centre to experience the Lyza culture and get a chance to meet like-minded peers that enjoy coding and AI.

Parents were treated to an enlightening experience, gaining firsthand insight into the AI and coding curriculum their children have been tackling, and had the delightful opportunity to interact with Kebbi the AI Robot culminating in a vibrant 45‑minute performance where Kebbi danced to a medley of popular English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese songs, all meticulously coded by our team to showcase the playful, innovative spirit behind our educational approach highlighting transparency, engagement, and the creative power of AI in learning.

Students at our satellite centres were intrigued by our unique Kash offerings, our exciting reward system designed to motivate students on their coding journey.
P.S. A big change is looming for our Kash system, specially developed by our software enthusiast Lizhang and Rachel. Want to know more? Stay tuned to find out!

On June 28, our EdTech Quest Finals took an exciting turn: students were challenged to design and code projects centered on the theme of marine ecology.
It was an inspiring coding session where our young coders unleashed their creativity, resulting in a buzz of innovation as they concentrated on crafting their own unique projects.

Incorporating marine ecology added rich educational depth, coding for environmental themes helps children explore real-world ecosystems, conservation, and critical thinking in engaging, project-based ways. From tracking marine life to interactive awareness tools, students tied computational thinking logic to meaningful, ecological outcomes.

After a full coding session, participants proudly presented their creative projects to Evan and our founder Lizhang, demonstrating not only impressive programming skills but also thoughtful incorporation of ocean science concepts.
For some students, it was their first-ever competition and it naturally brought butterflies, but these students showed tremendous spirit, and kudos to them for rising to the challenge!
Many undergraduates in Singapore and around the world participate in hackathons to sharpen coding and project-development skills, such opportunities are less common for younger students. By creating our own EdTech Quest, Lyza Education offers a valuable platform—encouraging students to code projects that build real-world skills and prepare them for future challenges.

Competitions like EdTech Quest do more than just assess skills—they unlock potential and foster a true love of learning. By blending structured quizzes with creative, real-world projects, these competitions offer young learners a chance to shine and grow in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
