Empower your child to stand out in the DSA journey

Build confidence, skills, and a strong coding portfolio from Primary 3 with Lyza Education.

What is DSA?

DSA-Sec (Direct School Admission) is an admission scheme in Singapore that allows Primary 6 students to apply to secondary schools before taking the PSLE. It recognises talents and achievements beyond academic grades.

It is an alternative entry route to secondary schools for Primary 6 students before PSLE. Recognising talents and achievements beyond academics, it allows students to apply to secondary schools based on their talents (e.g. coding, sports, arts, leadership) and receive a confirmed offer before PSLE results are released.

To ensure students are well prepared ahead of this timeline, Lyza’s DSA Preparation Programme starts as early as Primary 3 (CodeSpark) and continues until the DSA application period in Primary 6. Over these years, students gradually build their coding portfolio through structured courses such as App Inventor, Python, and AI projects, culminating in competition training and portfolio presentation practice by Primary 6.

The Direct School Admission (DSA) process typically begins in mid-May each year, when Primary 6 students submit their applications to secondary schools. Shortlisting and interviews take place from June to August, with results released in early September. Successful students confirm their offers during a 5-day acceptance window in late October, before PSLE results are released in November.

Frequently asked questions

Unlike academic subjects or performing arts, where standardised certification and exams are widely recognised, coding doesn’t yet have one universal qualification. We at Lyza Education understand this limitation, and we address it in two ways:

  1. Our ACES framework, to give parents clear visibility into your child’s coding growth across various areas

  2. Competitions & assessments, so your child can be benchmarked against other children their age.

These methods provide real feedback: you get to see how your child fares not just by our internal standards, but in comparison with peers.

Application & Understanding

How well your child understands and applies classroom concepts.

Computational Thinking

Their logical, systematic thinking enables them to solve complex problems creatively.

Engagement

How actively and enthusiastically they participate in lessons.

Skills

Our DSA Programme:
CodeSpark

At Lyza Education, we recognise that students aged 9 who rank in the top 20% of their cohort demonstrate exceptional coding potential. These students are automatically enrolled in our CodeSpark Program, designed to fast-track their progression to L300 and beyond.

The CodeSpark Program offers high-achieving students an accelerated pathway to advanced coding levels, typically reserved for upper primary or even secondary students. By advancing through levels L200/L21x, students can:

  • Fast-track to L300: Engage with more complex coding concepts and projects.

  • Prepare for Direct School Admission (DSA): Build a strong portfolio for secondary school applications at age 12.

Being part of the CodeSpark Program provides students with unique opportunities to enhance their coding skills:

  • Competition Training: Participate in exclusive training sessions to prepare for local and regional coding competitions, fostering problem-solving skills and innovation.

  • Invite-Only Workshops: Attend specialised workshops curated by our CEO, Lin Lizhang, a senior software engineer with more than 5 years of experience at leading tech companies, including Meta and Amazon. His technical acumen ensures that students receive top-tier guidance and mentorship.
