About Competition

Is your child aged 7 to 10 passionate about creating games, telling stories, or exploring tech? Enter the Lyza Scratch Challenge 2025, a nationwide Scratch competition designed to showcase the brightest young creators in Singapore!

Theme: Kebbi explores Singapore

Under-8 (U8)
  • Create a simple interactive animation or game where the Kebbi visits iconic landmarks like the Merlion, Gardens by the Bay, or Sentosa.​

  • Use basic motion, sound, and looks blocks

Under-10 (U10)
  • ​Develop an interactive game or story where a tourist named Kebbi navigates through Singapore attractions 

  • Include meaningful use of variables

  • Use broadcast messages, conditionals, and loops

Who is Kebbi?

Think of Kebbi as your new Scratch mascot: A charming character with personality, just like Scratch Cat, but designed uniquely inhouse. On the competition day, every participant will receive a custom Kebbi sprite, complete with walking animations and multiple costumes to fuel creativity.

The Scratch creation (game or animation) runs well, ensuring an engaging, glitch-free user experience.

The tourism theme is strongly present, showcasing iconic Singapore landmarks, reflecting Singapore's culture and heritage.

Demonstrates strong Scratch coding skills with effective use of events, loops, conditionals, broadcast messages, and variables (e.g., scoring or animation timers).

Able to present his/her project well and allow others to understand the beauty of his/her project

How it Works

Do note that there is a $40 participation fee, that supports the competition experience by providing trophies and certificates to recognise effort and achievement, as well as judging logistics and admin support to ensure a smooth process.

STEP 01

  • Sign up here.

  • Select your age group (Under-8, Under-10).

STEP 02

  • Prepare your designs! Upon registering for the competition, you are set to go with the design of the project (Sprite, backdrops, sounds etc). However do note that you are not allowed to bring any premade code into the competition.

STEP 03

  • On the schedule that you have registered for, you will be given 90 minutes to code out your project.

STEP 04

  • Project short presentation (maximum five minutes) covering:

    • How your project works.​

    • The most impressive block of code of your program​

  • Do note that your presentation will be recorded for judging purposes.

STEP 05

  • Your project would be judged after the session, and your results will be published a week later!

  • ​On 20 December 2025, the best performing participants will be invited to our flagship centre in Orchard for a prize presentation session.

  • The Lyza Scratch Challenge is open to all children aged 7 to 10, living in Singapore. Whether your child is a coding enthusiast or just starting out, this is the perfect opportunity to create, learn, and shine!

  • We understand that every child’s schedule is different, and that year-end can get busy! That’s why we’ve built flexibility into the competition format.

    🧠 The competition will be held onsite every Friday from 22 November to Wednesday 12 December 2025

    🎯 Participants can choose any of these dates to come down and complete their project in person

     

    Even if your child joins last-minute, they'll still be able to participate — no rush, no pressure, just a fun and empowering experience!

  • Our judging panel, featuring Lyza’s CEO, tech expert Lizhang, and Curriculum Lead Evan, will evaluate submissions based on these criteria:

    • Functionality (25%)

    • Creativity (25%)

    • Code Logic (25%)

    • Presentation (25%)

     

    Every project will be reviewed thoughtfully, and top entries will be celebrated!

  • Absolutely! Scratch is designed by MIT that is made suitable for beginners aged 7 and up, using simple drag-and-drop blocks to teach powerful coding concepts. Even if your child is new to Scratch, learning resources can be easily found. However, it would actually be beneficial for him/her to pick up coding through formal lessons, which we would encourage him/her to sign up here.

  • Kebbi is a cute AI social robot from Taiwan. To make it even unique, we have designed the competition to also leverage of the use of the cute robot.

     

    On the day of the competition, participants will be given a Kebbi sprite to program, uniquely designed in Singapore! Not to worry, it is almost the same as Scratch Cat, where it also has multiple costumes to depict a walking cycle.

     

    It will be a fun way to blend creativity, storytelling, and tech, all in one project.

  • The Lyza Scratch Challenge 2025 will be held on-site at our Lyza Campus @ Orchard. As your child would be spending 90 minutes coding our their own projects, parents are welcome to either take a look at our centre, or simply shop around the Orchard area while waiting for your child.

  • The participation fee costs:

    • $40

     

    The fee supports the competition experience by providing trophies and certificates to recognise effort and achievement, as well as Judging logistics and admin support to ensure a smooth process.

  • 🎉 Yes! Every participant will receive a personalised certificate, and top winners will receive trophies.

  • Yes, absolutely! While we provide all the necessary equipment, you are welcome to bring your own device if you prefer using it.

  • This is an individual challenge where each child will submit their own project so we can celebrate their unique creativity and ideas.

     

    👫 That said, if your child has a friend who’s also curious about coding and wants to join, they are welcome to sign up too! We love seeing more young minds take their first step into the world of coding. Just remember: each participant must register and submit their own individual project.

  • No. Participants should only compete in the category that matches their age as of their year of birth. This ensures fairness and consistency across all entries.
