For students aged 10 and above, we provide structured training aligned with both App Inventor (for creating solutions) and Python (for algorithmic strength). Students build a portfolio of tangible projects (via App Inventor) and sharpen coding fundamentals (via Python) which strengthen their DSA applications and competition readiness.

No. While we actively share and recommend suitable competitions, participation is entirely optional. We understand that your child’s schedule and comfort are important, so we do not require every student to compete.

Competitions provide valuable exposure, real-world experience and help to build a strong portfolio, especially for students interested in areas such as Direct School Admissions (DSA). Schools under Ministry of Education (MOE) also look positively on students who are active in their talent areas and have notable achievements.

Since 2024, we’ve been carefully evaluating a range of coding and tech competitions to ensure they align with our educational philosophy and student development goals. Our teachers will regularly pick out students who have been performing well in class using our ACES framework to competitions, maintaining quality learning experiences while providing fair opportunities for all students to grow at their own pace.

Yes. Our team hosts specialised competition training programmes to ensure every student competing under Lyza Education would be well prepared before participating. These sessions typically run for at least 10 hours and are designed to equip students with both core coding fundamentals and strategic tips on how to excel in competitions.

The training includes:

While it’s excellent that your child already has experience in programming languages, further training is still valuable, especially when preparing for competitions, portfolios or pathways like DSA. Here are key reasons why:

Competitions require more than language knowledge. Programming languages (e.g., Python or App Inventor) are the tools. What competitions test are things like algorithmic thinking, problem-solving under time-pressure, debugging under stress, and unfamiliar scenarios. Research shows that competitions help students engage deeper with programming and improve problem-solving skills.

Training helps bridge the gap to competition-level performance. Even if your child is comfortable coding at home or in class, competition environments often demand faster thinking, cleaner code, better structure, and strong fundamentals (e.g., data structures, algorithmic complexity).

Targeted preparation reduces risk of being unprepared. We offer a training programme of at least 10 hours covering both fundamentals and competition-specific tips (strategy, time-management, typical tasks). This helps ensure that once your child is shortlisted, they’re in a strong position. Without targeted training, there is a risk that gaps in contest-skills could limit performance.
