In 2023, we founded Lyza Education, and our inaugural cohort was made up largely of children under age 8 who had their first taste of coding through CodeLab, a truly fun and enriching experience, but one that also revealed just how much more we could offer in helping young learners grow not only in skill, but in confidence, creativity, and long-term computational thinking.

Many parents say they like CodeLab and Kebbi, where our programmes are unique, but often ask: what next? That’s exactly why I have always been passionate about opening up Direct School Admission (DSA-Sec) as a pathway, so that top students who excel in coding can leverage their talent to gain admission to their desired secondary schools. Under DSA, students are evaluated not just on PSLE scores, but on their aptitude, passion, portfolio, interviews, and other achievements in areas like coding, STEM, engineering and design.
This year, we have spent numerous hours refining Lyza Education's Direct School Admission (DSA) programme, ensuring it provides comprehensive support for both students and parents. A significant enhancement is the integration of students' projects into our platform, encompassing in-house creations from CodeLab and CodeSpace, as well as external projects from platforms like Scratch and MIT App Inventor. This initiative was made possible through the invaluable contributions of our software development team that we have progressively developed this year, As someone with an Electrical Engineering degree from Imperial College London, I understand the challenges of acquiring coding skills independently, having not been from a traditional Computer Science (CS) background. I believe the most effective way to master these skills is by engaging in real-world projects, and I am committed to providing such opportunities for those eager to learn.

I am thrilled to announce our inaugural DSA Talk, "Parent’s Guide to DSA Success", happening on 22 November 2025. Held online, this session aims to reach as many interested parents as possible. Designed for both parents and students, the talk will provide insights into the Direct School Admission (DSA) process and how Lyza Education supports young learners in leveraging coding as a talent for secondary school admission. Whether your child is in Primary 6 next year and considering DSA or is a budding coder aged 9 and above, this talk will offer valuable information on how our programs can guide them on their coding journey. Spaces are limited, so be sure to RSVP here to secure your spot!
