Lyza Student Highlights: Zahra's AI Journey

At Lyza Education, we make it a point to encourage top-performing students that have been recommended by our teachers to try out competitions to expose them to competitive coding. Nearing the end of last year, two students from The Kidz Club (TKC) Bukit Timah teamed up together to join Technovation Girls, an international competition for girls aged 8 to 18. In this series, we talk to one of the participants, Zahra.
First-Time Competition Experience
Zahra, stepping into your first coding competition can be a major milestone. What was that experience like for you?
It has been an exciting and fun journey so far. It was also great to work with Kaelynn, who I have known for years at TKC. So far, we have been spending weeks building our mobile app, from conceptualising to developing something real.

Some of your friends at TKC have participated in other competitions with Lyza Education, have you heard about their experience?
I have heard from my friends at TKC who have taken part in other competitions with Lyza Education and the founder of TKC, Mdm Lim is also supportive of us learning coding and participating in competitions to enrich our learning journeys. Some even received awards and recognition for their projects and coding skills, from trophies and certificates when they placed well in events like the Lyza Scratch Challenge or EdTech Quest.
While I have not received any of those big competition awards yet, I am happy to have earned a Coder of the Term medal at Lyza for the progress and creativity I showed in class. This motivates me to keep learning and pushing myself in coding.

AI and Singapore's Future
Have you heard about AI? What excites you most about it?
Yes! I have heard about AI. What excites me is how it helps learning faster. I use AI tools in the Technovation Girls Challenge to research and get answers quickly, which made preparing for the project smoother and more interesting.

Have you heard about how AI could change everyday life or impact future careers?
Yes, I have heard about how AI could change everyday life and impact future jobs, and it is exciting but something we should use carefully. AI is already making everyday tasks easier and in the future it could reshape jobs, so people can focus on creativity and problem‑solving rather than repetitive tasks.
At the same time, I do think that it is important that we do not let AI take over everything, we still need our own ideas, critical thinking, and creativity so we do not rely completely on machines but use them to support and enhance what we do.
Have you thought of what you want to do in the future? Do you think what you are learning now could help in it?
I really enjoy interacting with people, whether it is with my friends or my teachers, I am leaning toward becoming a teacher or a lawyer. I know both careers require a lot of studying and strong communication skills, and I have heard that AI is already being used to support learning, which can make studying and understanding complex topics easier in the future.
