Singapore is a vibrant, multicultural hub, and at Lyza Education, we celebrate this diversity through our student community. Just like founder Lizhang, who studied Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Imperial College London, worked at Meta and Amazon, and moved from China to London before settling in Singapore in 2021, many of our learners bring unique cultural and educational backgrounds.
In this “Meet the Coders” series, we will profile four talented Lyza Education students, each with their own story of transition and adaptation. These learners have enriched our coding classrooms with perspectives shaped by living across different countries, cultures, and education systems!

Ty, 12
Can you introduce yourself?
Hi, I am a South Korean, currently in Grade 7 studying in Singapore. Other than coding, I also play Roblox and football.
What inspired you to learn coding and join Lyza Education?
I started learning it in school last year, when I learnt about Computer Science. It was extremely difficult as I have no experience in it. I then thought how I could learn more about it and that was when I got to know about Lyza Education. I went for a trial lesson, and I have since learnt about MIT App Inventor and Python!
I realised that by learning coding it helped in my academics too, where I saw improvements in Math and Science.
He has shown a systematic approach to problem-solving through his lessons at Lyza Education, which can also attribute to improved results in school too, as subjects such as Math also require problem-solving skills.
~ Teacher Rachel
What is your favourite project or learning moment.
Teacher Mihir got me to analyse Titanic datasets. It feels that I am adventuring and researching on the Titanic. It gets me excited. I also get to present my projects at the end of the course, which I feel it is beneficial for me as I feel that I can better understand what I have learnt and build self confidence.

Dream projects and plans to keep coding?
I feel that coding is a very broad word and there is so much more to it. I want to keep on coding to improve my skills. I would like to explore a lot more about Engineering and Technology too, from Artificial Intelligence (AI), UI Design and Software Development.
Have you learnt coding in school? whats different compared to your learning at Lyza?
I first learnt coding last year for 2 terms. In a class there are a lot of students and I realised that my teachers often have to handle a large group of students at a time, where they could not help me out as much when I had questions.
At Lyza however the class ratio is much smaller, and I got to learn various domains of coding, from Mobile App Development, to basic Python concepts to now Data Analytics.
I also like the Lyza platform, where I heard that my own teacher co-developed some features of the platform, which feels impressive. The environment of the centre is also good, where I like the coziness of the place.

Anika, 13
Hi Anika, can you introduce yourself?
I am Anika, a student at Dimensions International College. Apart from coding, I like reading too. I enjoy reading genres like Mystery and Horror.
What do you like about coding?
I like the way we learnt it. I get to gain new interesting new knowledge with various levels of difficulty. It is not as easy as it sounds however, but it gives me the motivation to debug my codes whenever I encounter errors. I do get the sense of achievement when the bugs are eventually fixed.

What inspired you to learn coding and join Lyza Education?
It started in school and I found it interesting and I told my Mum about it. She learnt about Lyza Education somewhere on the internet and got me to sign up so I can learn more about it. I have no regrets joining!
What is your favourite project or learning moment.
I like learning loops and different types of loops. It kept going on and fun to look at it. The teachers here are also good with their explanations. I also get to try out questions of various types of difficulty levels so I get to know what I am weak at.
What are your goal? Do you have any dream projects or plans to keep coding?
I want to do create a game. A very interesting game. Like the escape room game that we did in class today. I would love to continue learning how to code!
Have you learnt coding in school? whats different compared to your learning at Lyza?
Yes, I have learnt it this year, where they go through basic Computer Science concepts. However, similar to local schools, the class ratio is also large, so it is tricky for me or my friends to ask our teachers questions if we have doubts.
💡 Did you Know? |
Computer Science is actually a GCE subject, not just in Singapore, but also in certain international schools! |
Zahra, 9
Hi Zahra, can you introduce yourself?
Hi, I am Zahra, I am 9 years old.
What inspired you to learn coding and join Lyza Education?
I saw my sister coding a project. It looked fun and I thought that was something I wanted to try.

What is your favourite project or learning moment.
My favourite is an Animal Crossing game on Scratch, as I worked with my friends together. We first wanted to make a movie but Teacher Grace said that it would be too challenging, so we decided to create a game that allowed us to farm and sell instead.
What are your goals? Do you have any dream projects or plans to keep coding?
I want to create games like Roblox.
Have you learnt coding in school? What's different compared to your learning at Lyza?
I learn coding in school too, but last term I learnt how to create a game on Scratch, which was something I did not get to learn in school.
Rebecca, 7

Hi Rebecca, can you introduce yourself?
Hi I am Rebecca. I am a Primary 1 student from Raffles Girls Primary School.
What inspired you to learn coding and join Lyza Education?
In March this year, I attended a CodeLab trial, and I got to learn about the cute robot named Kebbi. I find it fun that I can code Kebbi to move around, and I wanted to learn more about what I can do with it too.
What is your favourite project or learning moment.
I am learning about Scratch now, but I still like playing with Kebbi, as I can see the robot live in front of me!
What are your goals? Do you have any dream projects or plans to keep coding?
I want to create a game that has animals in it, just like the game that I created in my Scratch class.
💡 Did you Know? |
Zahra and Rebecca attend coding lessons with Lyza Education while at The Kidz Club, where we have been conducting classes for more than a year there! |
Wondering if your child can do what some of our students are doing? Why not enroll for a trial class to know more about us? We are proud to featured that we have recently been featured on Little Steps Asia, Little Day Out and Sassymama as one of the best coding classes in Singapore, and we can't wait to welcome you next!
