Why AI Education Should Start Before Adulthood

Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we work. In Singapore, many adults are already racing to catch up.

In 2025 alone, more than 105,000 people took AI-related training through SkillsFuture-supported programmes, reflecting a surge in demand for AI skills as industries adopt new technologies.

Adults Are Reskilling. Kids Can Start Earlier.

Singapore’s government has been expanding AI learning opportunities for workers through SkillsFuture and institutes of higher learning.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education is bringing AI into schools. Starting in 2025, all primary and secondary school students were introduced to AI through a new “AI for Fun” programme, where they learn basic concepts such as how AI works, computational thinking, and responsible use of the technology.

Early Exposure Reduces Future Barriers

Learning AI later in life can be difficult. Adults often face time constraints, unfamiliar concepts, and the pressure to reskill quickly.

When children learn these ideas earlier, those barriers shrink. They grow up understanding how technology works instead of scrambling to catch up. When students encounter AI concepts in school, they gradually develop

  • Computational thinking

  • Problem-solving abilities

  • Digital confidence

By the time they reach university or enter the workforce, AI is not something “new” they must urgently learn — it is simply another tool they already understand. Singapore’s Ministry of Education has emphasised that students will not only learn how to use AI but also develop broader skills such as critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving so they can create value beyond automation.

AI education is not just about technology. It is about preparing students for an AI-transformed economy.

The Long-Term Advantage

If adults are rushing to learn AI now, imagine the advantage children gain by starting early.

Introducing AI education in schools does more than teach technology. It builds confidence, problem-solving skills, and digital literacy from a young age.

In an AI-driven future, starting earlier is the biggest head start for all. Sign up for our coding classes today!
