Coder of the Term Spotlight: How 10-Year-Old Yong Le Turns "Geometry Dash" Inspiration into Original Code at YMCA Canberra

At Lyza Education, we regularly make it an effort to showcase our students and their progress or projects. In this series we talk to Yong Le, our latest Coder of the Term winner, hailing from YMCA Student Care Centre @ Canberra.
Hi Yong Le, can you introduce yourself?
Hi! I am Yong Le, and I am 10 years old.
Have you learned about coding before joining Lyza Education at YMCA?
No, I only started learning coding this year!

We heard you love thinking out of the box. How does that help you on your coding journey?
I think it is very important! We should be creative so we can come up with new ideas instead of always using the same ones. I enjoy thinking of new ideas with my friends, as we can create our own projects.
I enjoy coding with my friends with my friends as we can think of new ideas together. It is fun!

Your animation project was inspired by the game Geometry Dash! Do you have a favorite cartoon or game that inspires you?
I do not really watch cartoons since I feel I have grown out of it. But I play games like Geometry Dash, which is how I got the idea for this project.
Did you know? |
Geometry Dash is also a game created on Scratch, where a library of projects made by its users is available within the community. Players use it to experience bite-sized versions of the rhythm-platformer online or on mobile devices. Anyone use it as a learning benchmark to build mechanics like scrolling, gravity, and object cloning. |
What do you like most about coding so far?
What I like most about coding is learning how to make characters move around the screen! It was initially a little tricky to learn about coordinates, but after a while I found it interesting that I can use what I have learnt in Math in these projects!
What is your ultimate coding aspiration for the future?
I learnt much more about animations through this course, so I would want to create animated movies like the ones made by Pixar and Disney!
I recently watched Toy Story and The Super Mario Bros. Movie and was fascinated by how such animations are created. I would like to learn more about it if I get the chance.
